In this series of sound sculptures, the artist pays homage to the hand, both as an organ of knowledge and creation and as an ancient
technological device. By knotting cords, the hand discovers a language and a system of recording and encoding. The knot is an information
structure, a primitive form of algorithm. Different configurations, tensions, and colors of knots can store and transmit data, as was done with
the Andean quipus.
These sculptures, shaped like knotted fingers, transmit a musical composition through four channels using augmented reality (using mobile
devices and wireless headphones). Each sculpture represents a macramé pattern woven with motion-capture gloves to generate data and
create sound pieces. The hand is an essential organ that allows us to perform complex tasks, perceive the world around us, and transmit and
express emotions. It is also fundamental to the development of the human brain. With this work, the artist reminds us of this by displaying her
own hands, thus activating our creative imagination.
